Fig Trees
At Ty Ty Nursery we grow fig trees on our property directly in front of the warehouse office front door, so that our customers can personally examine and eat the fruit. Today, October 27th, 2013 we have an Italian sweet fig tree in the full fruiting mode that customers and employees have been eating and enjoying for over a month, and these figs will be picked daily, and they will continue to fill the tree, until the onset of the first frost.
Figs grow as fruits of many different colors to ripen as: purple, white, blue, yellow, black and green, and the green figs, like the Ischau Japanese fig, cannot be seen or damaged by birds who are color blind. Some fig cultivars are so concentrated with sugar that they can be dried for eating during the winter when the fig tree is usually dormant and unproductive. Some fig trees are very cold hardy and can be grown at below freezing temperatures, such cultivars as the Tennessee Mountain fig and the Chicago fig. Both figs are reported to have been successfully grown in Illinois, Indiana and New York. Some cultivars of the fig tree can bear more crops of figs than one as the growing season unfolds, and all fig trees will usually bear better, if the figs are picked off the trees as they normally mature during the growing season. You can enjoy the fun of growing your own figs at your own backyard orchard by ordering your fig trees on the phone or online or better yet, by visiting us at our warehouse location in Ty Ty, Georgia.

Enjoy Four Different Fig Trees
Fig trees are used as a religious symbol in the Hebrew Bible, the most significent instance being Jesus Christ cursing the fig tree for being umproductive to feed himself and the desciples. This curse represented not only as the unfruitful fig tree, but metormophically on the Jewish nation that had become corrupt in its priesthood that lead to the death of Jesus. His curse on the Jews was fulfilled in 70AD when the Roman General, Titus, destroyed Jerusalem. Leaving no stone unturned and the destruction of the Temple of Solomon.

Exotic New Fig Trees
Fig trees were a favorite orchard tree in Biblical times in Israel, and European colonists imported the trees and dried figs into the U.S for growing and eating. Figs are richly flavored, sweet fruits, and new hybrids produce a wide range of ripe fig colors: purple, blue, black, white, yellow and even green. New fig hybrids grow the fruits as large as lemons with high sugar content, perfect for drying for winter use and cooking. Fig preserves on toast are a Southern favorite breakfast treat.
