Voodoo Lily


The scent is considered unpleasant by most gardeners and attracts unpleasant insert pollinators such as houseflies, wasps, and yellow jackets. The flowers of these plants generally are shaped like mammoth tulips with a hotdog-like tube inserted in the center. The flowers generally appear during the winter, if the bulbs are lifted and placed on a dry shelf, but the blooms generally appear unseen beneath the dense leaves if left outside to grow.



The plant is so aggressive that it will shade out and overwhelm grass and other weeds, and requires no special attention during droughts, as it has flourished during the most severe Georgia drought in recorded history (2000) relatively unphased.
