The Bulbisperm Crinum Lily bulb is the oldest and most popular crinum used in hybridization. Early forms sometimes had rather ratty looking flowers with a low bloom count, and the resulting hybrids were not much better than their parents. Les Hannibal has developed many interspecific motherbulbs by selecting the best colored and highest bloom count subjects and intercrossing many inbred generations.


Of the new interspecific inbred flowers and the oldest CxPowellii forms such as Cecil Houdyshel, the Bulbisperm Crinum Lily bulb has perhaps been the single most valuable advance in Crinum improvement ever made. Re-creation of older hybrids which used old forms of bulbispermum have been compared to Les Hannibal's interspecific inbred offspring, and the results are absolutely astounding when comparisons are made.
