Pluot trees produce a fruit that is an "inter-specific, hybrid" back-cross between a plum and an apricot that contains many more plum characteristics than an apricot. For instance the skin is slick like a plum, and the skin color is often shiny and colored a dark burgundy, just like that pulp on the the interior that includes the seed covering. The sweetness and aroma of the Pluot is much more intensively flavored like that of the apricot. The fruit yields of the Pluot trees are heavy and reliable and the Pluots seem to have a longer shelf life in grocery stores than either of its parents.
