he Strawberry tree is most often grown as a small tree but can be grown as a multistem shrub in a hedge or privacy block. In California the European Strawberry tree is popularly planted as a sidewalk tree or as a garden landscape specimen. The brown smooth bark of the Strawberry tree peels off to reveal bright green tissue underneath much like the peeling bark of the River Birch, and the trunk is often gnarled and twisted into random exotic forms. Usually the Strawberry tree only grows to 20-25 feet in the U.S., and the canopy is round like the shape of the fruit. The flowers of the Strawberry tree form freely in white, bell-like clusters, much like blueberry flowers and can turn pink as each flower ages.
